Using social media for your business is a brand building exercise. You can advertise on social media, but that is not the same as posting to your Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and other social media pages. When done right, posting regularly to your social media account will increase your brand presence and expand your reach, but it takes time.

“To get a strong Brand Position in the minds of people, one needs to go through different steps. First the Brand needs to get noticed by people. Then it will take some time to build awareness, and make sure that as many people as possible will know about the Brand,” Says, Magnus Brehmer, CMO of Digimoto.

I have had businesses tell me that their social media doesn’t work, “We tried it and didn’t bring in new business.” or, “I just don’t get it, I posted on Facebook and no one liked it.” These types of statements will often happen when the business has not created a social media strategy, they haven’t set goals or objectives, or they simply have not been doing it right. When we talk about posting “done right,” we are looking at several different aspects of posting: Consistency, content mix, effective content, reach strategies, and audience responsiveness.

If you put some time and effort into your social media, you will build your brand and grow your reach. It will not happen over night, but you will gain new business from an effective social media strategy.
